Asus P5K-E issue

Hey guys,

My motherboard has been randomly resetting it's BIOS over the last month. It has only happened a couple of times but each time it happens it frigs up my Windows install to a degree. What happens is I will be in Windows and it will lock up and I am forced to do a hard boot. When it comes back on the BIOS is completely reset to factory defaults. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Specs are as follows:

q6600 @ stock
4 x 1gig OCZ Platinum RAM
2 x 250gig Seagate HD RAID 0 (OS install)
1 x 250gig WD HD (files backup)
XFX 8800GT Extreme
SoundBlaster Live! 24bit
Coolermaster 650W power supply
Antec Gamer 900 with all 120mm fan slots filled
AC Freezer 7 Pro

I couldn't tell you what BIOS revision it is at the moment for the board. And I only bought it from MB a few months ago.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I would check your voltages and make sure they are all correct. I don't know what the 650W PSU is rated for on the 12V rails, but you might be coming close. I know when i overload the 12V rails my BIOS will reset itself saying "overclocking failed" or ssomething along those lines.

Sounds like a wonky BIOS, I'd update it to the latest greatest.

Did you bump your chipset volts up a bit from stock?

It might need a bit more to keep 4 sticks happy even at stock speeds.

What about your Ram Voltage? Is that up where it needs to be?

If it's only been over the last month or so, I'd also be looking at heat issues inside the case. We've had some wicked hot days this month which could trigger a reset on a component which is normally at the upper end of spec.

did u put the bios reset jumper back to default position

worth a shot never know. and for the record. clarkey was the one who didnt put the jumper in the default position. i just plugged and played LOL
hahaha im one of the few talented enough to come across this problem. HAHAHAHAHA

lol...it takes a special talent...lol. i have probably done the same thing, but that was back when the pc wouldnt boot with the jumper in clear mode...

hahah yeah that's what i thought. i never knew that on these new mb that the computer would boot no matter what position the jumper was in.

LOL. I like the jumper idea, but that is not the issue in this case as it is where it should be.

I'm updating the BIOS now to see if that helps and will double check the voltage settings on the RAM as they are likely a little lower than where they should be since the BIOS reset again.

As far as the heat goes, they haven't broken 40 in the last few weeks.

My powersupply is rated for 18A on both of the 12V rails.

That OCZ should be good to atleast 2.1v if memory serves me correct. I know OCZ can be paticular about the voltage an old board of mine wouldnt even post with anything less than 2.1v

also whats your CPUv set at? If mine is low it wil do the same thing. not sure what it is supposed to be for the q6600, 1.3v maybe?

rite now im runnin my q6600 stock and its 1.20 and 1.18 on load.
