E5200 if you want a CPU on the cheap (though MB had E8500's for $100 earlier in the day ) As far as a mobo goes in that price range... I can't say for sure but perhaps the P5QL-PRO would be a decent board, you'd at least be good to over 4Ghz before you exceeded what the board was rated for. You'll probably need something better than a stock HSF though for that.

Both are $250.86 taxes inc.

For the sheer OC'ing joy, maybe a 5000+ Black Edition, but it pales in comparison to what a E5200 can do. The newer quad's and tri-cores seem to be out of your price range. The 6500+ should be decent, but I haven't seen it listed anywhere yet

for fist time oc. id say buy something used, so that way you can push it to the limits, and not care. but if you're lookin for this to be ur main pc, e8400's are amazing oc chips, any of the p5k, p5n-d, or p5q series are decent

suggestions, do some research on your equipment,

****PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DONT USE A PIECE OF SHIT POWER SUPPLY*******

know what your bios terms mean etc.

first thing to start with is to turn off (intel) intels fuckin speed thread and automatic shit. this will hold you back.

set your ram timings manually, bump up stock voltage. **slight increments at a time**

then make sure your ram and cpu are not ( fuck i forget the word at the moment) make sure you change the fsb seperatly on both.

bump up the frequencys like 5 or 10 mhz at a time. (some cases, bios will say FSB)

also bump your cpu voltage up a little

Denty sounds like he has tourette syndrome. But he doesn't and hes right as well.

Except for the ram and cpu timings...
He means keep them Unlinked to the FSB. I prfer to keep mine linked. Just make sure your not OCing your ram to 20,000,000,000,000 Mhz....
