Does anyone know what would be required to copy an HD program from an Eastlink DVR to my computer in order to burn it to DVD. I purchased the Paul McCartney concert on pay-per-view and would like to burn it so my Mom in PEI could see it.

The DVR has every output under the sun from standard RCA-type video/audio out to component out to S-video out to HDMI. But I have no input on my video card. Does this require another card? What kind? How much? Where to buy? Sofware?

Any help would be appreciated.

A TV Tuner card or a dedicated video capture card would do the trick. Windows Movie Maker works well enough if the card doesn't come with it's own software.

eastlink dvr's use encryption on there content to make it hard for you to transfer files off the drive. some pvr's have been cracked so you can do some research to see if yours has been. also be warned if you rent the equipment from eastlink they will charge you about $750 if you open it, just so you know.

i'd say setting it up through another playback device such as a DVB card or tuner would be your best bet.

Ouch. That's pretty harsh punishment seeing as how they sell them for like $399 don't they? I almost want to get my hands on the paperwork to see if I really agreed to that when getting Eastlink digital cable because I'd hate to think it was one of those fee's they slapped on assuming people wouldn't call them on it but for that amount I'm sure people would.

Oh ok, "they" list it as $749.99 because I'm pretty sure FS and BB have them for $399 once in a while, if not regularly. I wonder if they are slightly different models though so if you were caught you couldn't buy one of them to replace it because of a technicality.

Anyways, sorry for the thread hijack. :)
