Nice work/play station Steve-o! I need to get a camera so I can do the same. GH party? Can I bring my roomate? He's ranked top 100 in the world, its quite entertaining to see him play lol.

But yeah, sweet setup, I guess now I gotta get a 2nd display despite my initial hesitation haha.

Petawawa. Bucky's moved back in.

Best part of GH5 is the fact 4 people can play guitar at the same time heh.

I'll let y'all know the plan over the weekend. I'm working that day so it'll have to be after 7pm, although we can still BBQ stuff.

Do you have two Motorola PVR Cable boxes or do you just move that one around? I thought they were like $400 to buy but I guess you could be renting two of them.

The Projector is in it's case in a closet, until needed in the future. Only one box is a DVR. Eastlink is giving me a special "deal" on the DVR cuz they forgot I have it.

I dropped the expensive TMN networks, since I just download all the TV I wanna watch anyways.

I still may just drop the whole cable TV and get Starchoice, due to various better reasons.

Get usenet access and free yourself from the limitations of broadcast television lol

I donno. When I was on vacation last week the inn we stayed at had StarChoice and I found it fairly annoying. You go through the channel guide and they have multiple versions of every station (for different areas/time zones) but they all seem to be playing the same thing. So instead of seeing channels 1-60 lets say, with all those channels having different shows, you see channels 100-400 lets say, with all those channels having pretty much the same amount of unique shows as Eastlink cable, but repeated 4 or 5 times as you scroll through the guide. I would flip through and see the same episode of Dr. Phil or Oprah at least 6 or 7 times before getting to the end... and by that time I have to go through the menu again from the start because I've wasted a half hour of my life and need to see what's on for the next block of shows. ;)

It seemed like "More Channels" equaled "More Redundancy" imo.

Eastlinks' version of digital cable sucks and isnt worth the money - we are all aware of multiple reasons why. Aliant is no better. we need more competition here.

I went with basic cable. Its all one needs. Is there really that much difference to picture quality? nope. Seeing as there is the internet, where you can get all the episode(s) of anything anytime anyway - most now in High Definition, why bother with digicable. So when you think about it - we are paying for cable twice over.

Between regular and digital cable for SD channels there isn't a different, no, but with SD and the HD channels there is, and you do have an option of getting them with Eastlink... I'm not sure if when you said Digital you meant the HD channels (ie. channels 401, 402 etc...).

As for downloading all your shows, ya you could do that, and I personally could *probably* get away with just that but there's something to be said about crashing on the couch and seeing what's on. Plus my girlfriend isn't that technical with computers and would have a hard time with it I'm sure.

Once again, cannot stress enough how great usenet is.

I can download blu-ray quality rips (720 and 1080) in an hour or two. I mean the big problem alot of people have with downloading their movies or shows is the time it takes to actually download them. With usenet, an hour long show takes less than 4 mins to download. A movie rip takes less than 10.

I have recently been actively hunting for a way to free myself from broadcast TV. It's good to start a bookmark folder and do some searching for free tv links like www.alluc.org or www.joost.com. More and more networks are offering their episodes in HD now for free. There is a limitation on some networks where they only stream to US residents, but this can be circumvented with the right know how.

If you're not willing to pay $15 a month for usenet access (which pays for itself 10x over), and are still using sluggish torrents, check out Torrent Episode Downloader. Which can be set to automatically download new episodes of your favorite shows and notify you when they're available.

http://www.ted.nu/download.php

This is inspiring me to make a thread about my experiences with banishing pay for tv services. I'll get this done in the next day or two.

Seriously, we're living in a new age where paying for TV is a thing of the past.

Post the info Phonix..I would like to get the scoop.

Tired of slow torrents and having to keep up with ISP's deep packet scanning to weed out torrents only to have them cap you. You pay for internet and now they do what they can to get you to use it they way THEY want. nuh uh. I pay - I use attitude here.

If they need better bandwidth - (well duh) upgrade your network. I would like to call easlink and tell them to cut cable altogether - I could forgo floppin on the couch to watch tv ( moving into blu-ray tonight ) as my puter is in the bedroom - have to lie on the bed with the missus instead to watch. admit it - it has its advantages lol

I am assuming usenet is a VPN?

There are plenty of usenet providers. The two biggest are astrawebs and giganews, with astra being the best deal ($15 a month, unlimited downloads and unlimited speed)

http://www.astraweb.com
http://www.giganews.com

I use Alt.Binz for my newsreader/download client.

http://www.altbinz.net/

To search for the binaries I use a web based usenet search called bisnearch.

http://www.binsearch.info

I get whatever my 15Mbps eastlink connection can handle when downloading, usually in the 1.2 to 1.6MBps range.

And no usenet is not a VPN. You use your existing provisioning to access your account. However, the two providers listed offer free SSL on all unlimited accounts, which means your client can make 20(or more) SSL connections to file parts, which masks much of your traffic from your ISP.
