5870...It supports DX11, uses less power and beats the living crap out of a 4890 in scores.

Wait a bit... (for prices to drop, 5870's to become more available and the 'other' things  )

If you mean the 300 series from NV, we're going to be waiting till 2010...As for the 5850's i'm sure there will be proper price/performance scaling.

you mean the best bang for YOUR buck right?

Or

The best bang for the buck.

Just because you're not buying it on my bucks.

If it is your buck. It depends on what you're comfortable spending.

If it is for the buck it depends on what the individual is comfortable with oe his/her e-peen size.

If it is on my buck. Neither.

But in all seriousness I see nothing wrong with the 4890. Also if I we're to build a new system I would either get the 5870 or wait till the Nvidia 300 series cards.

My suggestion is to make sure with what ya got ( if you have a decent vid card already) and wait it out several months. Prices will come down on all the cards you are looking at. Unless you want it now - then you gotta pay premium.

Besides, there are no DX11 games available yet anyways. Look at me, the cards I run are a lil laughable but they play anything I throw at it max settings, I am awaiting 4890's to dip a lil more before doing that route - cause I know if I pick one up now, in a few weeks I am going to wish I waited lol

Waiting to buy one or buying one right away really makes no difference. A new generation of cards comes out every 3-6 months anyways.

Shouldn't this be in Video Card Discussion?

I really have no idea what Dr. B has been going on about the past month about knowing something and not telling anything about it.

Don't compare a single 4890 to a 5870, its not exactly a fair comparison ($199 vs $450), only fair cmparison is 4890 CF vs 5870 which is close in price and performance.
If i had an exisiting system with a 4870/4890 already in it I would get another 4870/4890 and call it a day. But if I was building a new system i would prob grab something cheap but fast like a 4770 and wait for the next gen to drop in price and mature, becuase prices are way out of wack at launch (supply/demmand), and you prob wouldn't even be able to get a 5870 easily at the momment.

I'm still looking for a game that really taxes a single 4890, with pc games being console ports mostly its not like theres alot of hardware intensive stuff around, and I wouldn't put too much on DX11 for the time being.

Crysis would like to have a word with your 4890!

crysis is an unoptomized dog terd, hardly an example of current software. Take a look at the character models in RE5 and it runs at a full clip on an 8800GT.

It's more of a matter of: "Will it run what it should?"
An OC'd 4890 will meet any graphic standards you may need right now (not all mind you, but enough to say). If you have the money to spare for a 5870, then by all means go for it - but like everyone else is saying, waiting for the prices to drop on them would be a wise idea.

Sbeeze, now you're changing the rules on me! Yeah we all know Crysis is coded about as well Windows Me was, and there will probably never be a video card that runs it well....heh.
