If you have anything else running on your side of the cable modem that really slams back the bandwidth it'll kill anything else trying to use it. I know if I download anything at over 500k/s or a PS3 is downloading it goes well over 1MB a second, OR if I'm uploading at over 50k/s it will degrade performance on every other device in the network.

Usually if I'm having problems I just unplug the cable modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

I don't use a router or wireless router cuz nothing seems to be compatible with the way Eastlink does their broadcast whatzit routines (technical eh?), so I'm basically limited to 4 devices being hooked in, but they have their own IP addresses and there is or NAT to worry about.

What was the question, I forget heh.

No this is with nothing going at all and straight to the modem dosnt matter wich computer out of three is hooked up to it everything is like a 1mb connection instead of a 15mb Ive even ran there speedtest "eastlink speed test" and the 3mb file has a download time of 30min this is on a computer that has 4gigs 1066 and downloads on avg of 800kb/s - 1100kb/s and Ive already done all the unplug and plug back in on the modem, Ive gone through the solutions and still the same just wondering if anyone else is having any problems.

Call Eastlink, tell them to come test your lines. Also have them check to see if restrictions were placed on ur account (they did that to me).

Ya, I'd call Eastlink and let them know that since that test always seems to be fast for me no matter how bad the connection seems to be otherwise.

What exactly did you have to do to get restrictions?

I'm a usenet fiend. 200gb+ a week down @ 1.7MBps, they picked up on the activity and now throttle me during peak hours, as well as completely lock down all torrent traffic from my location, I get about 2-5KBps no matter what with torrents now.

Called eastlink and they said they placed restrictions based on my suspicious activity, and that my account would be reassessed.

Then get a vpn. Eastlink sniffs packets and idents torrentz thus the cap. All they will see with a vpn is traffic and they will not be able to sniff the packets as its on a vpn. I friend of mine does that, pays very little per month and gets the internet they way you should get it.

If you're on a site that supports it, try using https for the tracker. (Not just the site)

If I don't (aka any public torrents) my speeds on that port automatically get capped down to 400kb/s down with almost no upload. I have to change ports and force https tracker to get it back to full up/down. Really annoying. haha

I can see how the usenet woudl do it. I do a fair amount of torrents but i've never been capped by it, as far as i can tell. I do think it's https for my private tracker though, as TPB torrents never seem to get that fast.
