Oh a long time (1995?) ago I made a golden case out of some gigantic heavy steel full tower. Didn't have a clue, painted it golden spray can and some kinda laquer on top of it (no primer). Used a (wood) hole saw and cut 3 roundies with grills on it and put in 3 AC fans that ran at 53db each. That thing blew like the wind, and sounded like a tornado! Totally worthless though, and playing with live AC leaves some scorch marks. My brother still has it I'll try to get a pic heh. This is in a time when one had to manually round the ATA(66!) cables.

Thats the paint after well over a decade of abuse heh. Those hole were where the switches for the fans were. I think each fan did 150cfm heh. It weighss well over 50 lbs.

I consider that the pinnacle of my ghetto modding, and have no desire to do that again heh.

I'm guessing yer 4870 is working fine there eh?

i'm Pissed.

Went and got some Krylon clear coat. I did the same even spray method that made the paint come out amazingly well for a spray paint - and it screwed it - completely. I gotta clear coat tho, to protect the paint, what else can I do? maybe, just wax. I aint going thru all that work again to have it screw the pooch a 2nd time.

Back to square one.

So, Now I am going to let the paint that went to total crap harden and cure for awhile. Then in several days, sand the hell out of it, pick up some bondo and try again. So its going to have to wait now until next week or weekend. :(

I kinda liked that blue color, but this time maybe all black. F...!!

naw it just went all weird. Hard to explain without you seeing it really. So for now its going to sit till next pay day. I will get some further supplies and try again. The clear cloat looked 'crackely'. totally screwed the decent paint job.

so, in a week, sand, then repaint. This time I am thinking high glass black for the case and blue down the front of the case.

Does it look worse than my 13 year old case?

no steve-o , But its not at all as smooth or as nice as it was, not even close.

Its going to have to be redone for me to be satisifed with it. So lower grit sandpaper to shave it down, a lil bondo here and there if needed, then repaint, then clear coat it again and see how it goes.

Well..After seeing computers being made "your own" for years - it got me to wanting to do something, simple at first (a simple UV Mod) then use of adhesive chrome and pin striping(work in progress awaiting more parts) -then mess around with something more difficult - spray paint. As this is proving to be much more difficult and also involves alot of patience. Besides, if I screw the pooch on it - I am taking it to a paint shop.

So tomorrow, I am going to fix the door paint job, sand and redo it - sound easy? it isnt. If time allows, Pull off the front of the pc, masking tape and paper that up and do a few coats of primer then paint. Its going to go blue/black for the front. If I get that done somewhat I will post photos for you all to follow. Wish me luck.

And hopefully - get a few of you modding or playing with the idea on an older case.

well..

I got the door of the front panel off. Using masking tape and a canadian tire receipt ( sounds funny but it was just the right size) I covered the center portion of the door - as its going to be painted black, and put on a coat of blue paint. Its drying over night. A few more coats in the 'marnin.

yes a quick trip to crappy tire for some paint and bondo( for any inperfection) while doing my best to turn my head as some boobs were staring at me.

 <---it was really me today

I will post some photos when I get a few coats of Krylon Fusion on it. For now, I reassembled the latch and put it, the lock, grill and fan back into place on the door. That color really isnt bad at all. Especially with the black. Cant wait to see what it looks like when all done. photos to come!

Ok - door reassembled. photo of that.

the Door of the front panel is painted and now its sitting outside with a coat of clearcoat on it - its looking good. The photo is the door held in place to get an idea of how its going to look when finished. The entire front panel is going with this color blue on the outside, black on the inside ( where the paper and tape are now.)

next...Cover the blue paint with paper and tape, and paint the inside black. More photos to come!
