I told them I recently moved with some dnd guys to the passage and argued they got a better deal. Ie: 99 bucks taxes in. They didn't bite initially until I said I'm unplugging my stuff and bringing it in and going with alliant since I was getting shafted. .. Took me about 40 mins but I got a 100 buck deal to stick with EL.

Glad you got the deal. 40 bucks that you are not spending multiplied by 12 months. The sh*t adds up. For you that means more smokes!

What also is sh*tty is the fact that you have to be an arsehole on the phone to get something fair done. I guess we were lucky and got a nice lady that day, I didnt think to check to see if the moon was blue :P

I just call in and say, I just received an phone call from Aliant to switch to their service, and well it's considerable savings each month. I'd be getting X + X + X for X$ / month, I really enjoy the eastlink service, however for X$ / month savings, I can't really afford to pass it by.

They would bring up some crap about 2 TV's with Inet. Then I'd say, well we only have a 2 bedroom apartment, and only have room for 2 TV's, so that doesn't bother me.

I was wondering if you could do anything to keep me as a customer, I don't want to switch, are you able to match the offer price from Aliant?

Typically the response is. Not a problem sir, you get X+X+X for $/month, well even throw in X + X channels free for X# of month.

I saved 1200 off my bedroom set by telling the guy I was going to buy at leons because they had a better price. Where there is a competition, you can almost always negotiate a price. I saved $1000 off my Livingroom and Dining room. (fckin cats have the chairs in the dining room destoryed now, looks like I'll be buying new chairs.

Call Aliant and see what they will give you for a price to switch. If you have an Aliant cell, you can mention to the Eastlink people, they offered to bundle that in to save you more money as well.

Eastlink I "think" has a member retnetion guideline. A few other people who have done this went through the same thing as me.

If they gave a reduced price to 1000 people at 40.00 less each. Thats 40 grand out of their pockets. Thats a fair chunk of money. Imagine doing that with all their customers, god only knows how many that is. Since they are now out west, and what not. Lets say they have 1 million customers. They did that for all them thats 40 million!

No wonder they don't want to give a discount lol.

sure point taken but residential cable, inet and phone is not the only source of revenue for them.

Theres ALOT of businesses that pay thru the nose for alot of services. 40 bucks for the people that ask for it isnt a big deal. Not all customers are going to be doing that.

But for those that get it, it sure is a nice little break. Especially for those on very tight spending.

Well we got moved and eastlink up and running. A speed test via speedtest.net gave me a very decent 14.74 Mb/s download. Upload was .90 Mb/s ping 9ms. Test was with a server in Truro, NS.

Right on Tony - I will rerun the test when I get home this evening and post the result.

Somewhere around 5-6 pm - Aliant compared to Eastlink sucks donkey d*ck.

At work ( I cant post a link due to restrictions and privacy issues), it averages 28.78 Mb/s down ( topped out at 35Mb/s) and 15.46 Mb/s up. I wish I had this @ home lol

I think the same episode of Zena was on like 20 times in the past few days. A&E HD is just A&E stretched out. Infomercial hell. Artifacting. Loss of feed(during the only good thing I've found on it so far). Totally not worth the extra cost.

Well - There is no extra cost to me at all. I got free disconnect and hookup in the new place, free digi-cable with 40 extra channels for 2-3 mo whilst lowering my bill by ~40 bucks overall. I didnt even have digital cable before and still got my bill lower for the next year.

so screw aliant and the snail speed interweb connection lol
