A&E HD is just A&E stretched out. Infomercial hell. Artifacting. Loss of feed(during the only good thing I've found on it so far). Totally not worth the extra cost.

Is this the extra channels you're talking about or HD Cable in general?

While we're on the subject of Freeview month I'd like to take the opportunity to once again state my position on how bad TechTV has become. Years ago during these free months I would watch and learn all kinds of stuff. Now it feels like I'm watching MTV. And what's with all those laugh tracks (I know they're not really laugh tracks and done live by the people working there) that come on when any of the hosts say something trying to be funny? I mean, having a bad laugh track can be funny but it's sooo over used on this channel. After 5 minutes of watching I feel like a moron whose getting suckered in by the "lowest common denominator" effect and this is coming from someone who watches Jerry Springer and Maury Povich.

So I guess when it comes down to it TechTV traded it's soul for Oliva Munn and Morgan Web... I'm leaving Amber McCarther (spelling?) out of this because she actually knows her stuff and is on the one show that still deserves to be on TechTV.

Stating the obvious ( for someone who really doesn't watch much tv at all ) the only channel I find that's decent is the discovery channel. It's the only channel I am aware of that you can keep up to speed with current technology presented in a relatively non-biased manner.

Keeping the sci-fi channel for entertainment purposes is good too :P I don't think I have ever watched tech-tv. Based on the website layout I think I would probably stick with discovery for learning and keeping up to date.

I picked up some of these channels with my digital tuner built into my LCD TV. I wonder if eastlink will "forget" to stop broadcasting in digital :)

I got one of the additional channels for free all last year... unfortunately it was Showcase Diva, but my girlfriend loved it because Gilmore Girls was on it all the time. :?

here's a question that may sound stupid.
if you have your own digital tuner (ie. built into your HDTV) do you need to get Eastlink's rental box to get digital channels?

I think you just need to subscribe to their service. However try and connect it if you have EL presently, see if it works, if it does, let us know :)

For now, you do need to rent/own the digital box but you'll probably see that change soon. Hopefully as early as december, hahah.
