Well I might as well be the first amd fanboi to start this thread since there doesn't seem to be any posted here currently (besides Hali Newf's new build thread) and I'm sure this chip needs a thread of its own. I don't currently have my chip but have been doing a lot of research on amd's flagship cpu and am pretty pumped to visit amd's high end desktop cpu market.

I know I'm not the only one upgrading to this new chip and I'm sure other amd fans have their sites set on this new chip, at least til hex core hits the market.

So let's start the discussion..

Who's going for >4ghz and how are we gonna achieve it?

I'm going corsair h50 real soon and I'm hoping I can at least get a stable 4.1ghz on a 790GX chipset. It's not going to be an intel oc, but I'm going to try to squeeze as much juice out of amd as I can.

Well Phonix I can't really say much here until I get the chip myself and the new board and ram put in. 4Ghz for me may be hard as its on air and upstairs I might add - where Ambient is much higher.

If I can get a decent 3.8 with acceptable temps I will be happy. If I see you doing much better with liquid I may go that route as well. We will see how this 790X chipset does with the different board I have chosen.

Keep your efforts, temps, multi, volts etc all recorded.

Yep that's the plan. Shouldn't be much difference between the 790X and 790GX chipsets besides the obvious ddr3 difference. That's where the performance difference lies, albeit small based on articles I've read.

I will have my chip before my cooler and I plan on seeing what I can get with stock cooling first as a ref.
