I'm sure it's also ina bazillion other places. Personally I hope that Intel gets slapped so hard it's 8086 is going to feel it!

This is about 5 years too late. Personally I hope Intel gets sued in every state as well, following NY's lead.

Hogwash it is.

Just think to a short time ago, when the X2 was king. I recall reading several sources which reported AMD could not supply the chain that it did have in the first place.

In its statement announcing its complaint, the FTC claims Intel "has illegally used its dominant market position for a decade to stifle competition and strengthen its monopoly."

A decade eh? That would be 1999 when the Athlon core made it's debut.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlon

Many of us changed from Intel to AMD once they gained the performance crown. They held this crown until the summer of 2006 when Intel finally struck back with the Core2 Conroe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2

I wish the FTC luck in proving the American consumer was harmed by Intel's supposed business practices to shut out AMD. It is a matter of public record which shows AMD could not satisfy consumer demand. It would be a different story if AMD was left with warehouses of stock that didn’t sell.

We must keep in mind these prosecutors in the states are political positions, appointments, and in some cases elected persons to office of Attorney General.

Now really guys, let’s compare what performance $2000.00 would buy you in 1999, against what performance you could buy with the same money in 2006, or even today and from either manufacture. The FTC will have a hard time in proving the US consumer was harmed.

Well he could have just said that, heh.

Intel is the best IT example on how to screw over your customer base, and the channel, and your competitors using your monopoly status to point guns at everyone's heads.

Considering that they paid out 1.25Billion to AMD and the EU still wants their billion(s), I'm pretty sure the FTC has a leg to stand on (not to mention the AMD payout is an admission of guilt, without saying it). The US needs lots of money to pay down rediculous debt and fscking over intel is just another way to collect tax dollars. Now nVidia has joined the FTC (no doubt with help of a random stack of papers dropped off from AMD one night) over the integrated graphics fiasco, which appears to be about half the issue here. The industry has suffered long enough with the PoS intel XTREEM integrated graphics, they deserve to be broken up into a million itty bitty pieces.

I'm guessing Intel will have paid out over 10 billion by the time it's all said and done.

Looking at a lot of articles over the internet about Intel's current situation with the FTC, arguments being made that intel stifled innovation, consumers suffered, effects of this effects of that and what consumers will get if anything - well nothing really in the end.

The only true people to benefit from lawsuits against Intel are the Lawyers themselves. They can tie this up for decades and make an entire career and get sickly rich.

All things said , I am pleased that anti trust laws and are being enforced. They should have nipped Intel in the arse long ago but better late than never AND competition is healthy for everyone. Especially the lowly consumer.

This from AMD " Regulators around the globe are intensifying their scrutiny into Intel's business practices because they agree that the abuse of monopoly power to foreclose competition is illegal, harmful to consumers and must be stopped."

I seem to recall the antitrust suit against Microsoft in the Nineties not lasting very long; I'd imagine the Intel case would be closest to that. If a toothless federal agency is bringing suit, it's gotta be relatively open-and-shut case.
