Hey guys,

I just upgraded my PC to a Sapphire 5850 from a 9800 GTX 512 mb. I O/C's my e8400 to 3.6 ghz and seems stable with everything I play. I scored 17013. Is this a good mark. I have P5K-E 4 gig ddr 2 ram. WIN 7 Pro.

That score is very respectable. I would also do a performance vantage run to see how you score there as well. Is the 5850 overclocked? Also do up a screen shot

My trial ver of 3dmark vantage only allowed me to see my score once. And before I O/C'd my processor. I scored a crappy 5689. and before the O/C W/ 3DMARK 06. I scored 14995. I am at work with no pics. Will post later. ALSO, I have a my 9800 GTX sitting around. would it be worth while to use it as a dedicated PhsyX card. I know only a handful of games use it. But will probably bump my 3Dmark up.

i would see about pushing that cpu upwards of 4Ghz. It should open up that score along with opening up the score for your 5850. Use CCC to overclock that as well. What PSU are you currently using?

I get around 19K and change at 3.6GHz, but I suspect my quad adds a bit to the score. 06 isn't exacty the best benchmark to show how powerfull a 5850 is, 1280x1024, blech.

Good luck with the 9800GTX as a PhysX card, Nvidia is doing their best to keep PhysX from working if your running Ati for video.

One would think Nvidia would be favored for allowing physX to run with ATI.

Do up a Vantage run and post the results

I bought a 9800GT specifically for PhysX back when I had a 4870X2, I managed to get it working in XP, but of course Vista won't allow you to have 2 video cards from different vendors so I couldn't leave it in my system as Vista would have a conniption. Win7 allows 2 cards from different vendors however, right when a decent game came out that supported PhysX (Batman:AA) Nvidia changed the drivers so that they would disable GPU PhysX if a Ati GPU was detected. There's been some hacking done to get it working again, but I gave up and sold my 9800GT.

It would benefit both ati and Nvidia to allow that marriage of sorts. Too bad cause ATI fans would pick up an Nvidia card for the PhysX and Nvidia fans would pick up an ATI card to get cheaper and better performance lol

PhysX is a closed-standard app, run by one company and pushed onto selective titles for "halo effect". It's easy to make things look pretty without having to make everything use ragdoll physics.

Usually it's just fluff like particles and whatnot that don't affect the game that are used, BF:BC2 being one new example (and anything online can't possibly use it for anything other than that, for fairness sakes). Of course eyefinity works!

OpenCL (et al) is the future and team green is just stubbornly standing in the way of progress.

So, besides bumping up my 3dmark maybe. It really isn't worth it to use my old 9800 GTX for a physX dedicated card then???

Not if you don't like hacking vid card drivers, and don't have a PSU that can deliver enough power.

What about the Arctic freezer Rev 2? Is that a good cooler. If I could get my E8400 up to 4.0 ghz. That would make me happy.
