which of these two chipsets would you choose? 790FX/750SB or 890GX/850SB paired with AMD 965BE, CORSAIR 1600 4gig, HD 4890 1GIG NEW EDITION.

890GX hands down.

the 890 gives you usb3 and sata6. Also, unlike the i5 boards, it will not borrow bandwidth from your PCI-E slots for usb3 and sata6 functionality.

A friend of mine just got one from asus, Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz and a 965BE. Should be pretty alright when coupled with a kingston ssd and a 5850.

Also the onboard video sports DDR3 1300Mhz sideport memory that will augment any single ATI solution. Its a no brainer.

FYI usb3 is not included in the 890 chipset.Boards that have it are using an add on chip.So if you want usb3 you have to check to see if it's included.

Yeah Steve-O I did. After removing the over-ample amount of thermal compound and re-doing it with a much smaller amount, temps are where they should be. Its no better than a V8 tho really. On a cool day it idles ~30 degrees. Going to redo the OC soon and see what I can squeeze out of it.

I still think I'll wait for next genus of chipsets and stick with my 790, at least until I'm ready for DDR3 and Sata6. USB3 I'm totally opposed to...

Why are you opposed to USB3?

Too many other similar standards have come and gone over the years, or have failed.

Firewire, eSata....

The devices that support USB3 are few and far between, and an expansion card is only like $30 so buying a board with integrated ddr3 gives you just that.. an integrated usb3 solution.

It's all about just cause.....

Since USB3 is supposedly totally backwards compatible with USB2. I've seen mobos that have 6 USB2 and 3 USB3 ports on them, so it's not like USB 3.0 is crowding out 2.0.

Guess the other thing would be what make ASUS M4A89GTD PRO, MSI 890GXM-G65 or GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H?
