Buying a new monitor and was wondering is the 50 buck diff worth the extra 1 inch between the ASUS VH236H 23" and the ASUS VW246H 24" and would i be better off spend a few extra bucks and buying a LG or Samsung instead?

You can't really tell until you actually go and look at them...That's one of the useful things about futureshack.

What do you plan to do with a monitor: Play computer games and/or console and/or TV and/or whatever?

I'd say buy Samsung, but all monitors I own are Samsung, so I'm a wee bit impartial.

I like 16:10 aspect ratio myself, but 16:9 is becoming the norm these days.

Depends on what your price limit is as well. 50$ is not a lot of beer...can you go cold turkey for a week?

I'm very happy with my Samsung and a fan of 16:10 as well... it does make a difference.

When I was buying last I went to see a few and ended up with a Samsung as well. Try not to get caught up in specs and just go with what looks best to you.

As for the extra size I don't know what I would do. I like the bigger screens like most people but if it's the same resolution as the smaller one, it means the pixels will be larger, and if it's a higher resolution than the smaller one, it means needing a video card that can handle that res at a playable frame rate for all your current and future games. Sometimes that means the difference between needed a new video card sooner rather than later so that could be another expense that goes along with the larger monitor.

16:10 seems more versatile in the lower resolutions that can be supported. I don't know how people can use 16:9 on a PC.

All cheap monitors displays will look like crap when views from off-centre. Then again they only cost half as much :P

LED = shit ass expensive!

To add the the converastion

Samsung FTW. I've owned a total of 8 in the last 4yrs. Now you may say.. 8! holy crap why 8? Well let me tell you! I picked up a big beefy 24inch samsung about 2yrs ago when I was in college for $550 with service plan and all that jazz. I got it home and realized the color was off, even with any corrections. Took it back, the next one I got the power button wouldn't turn the monitor off, it just turned on when I plugged it into the wall. Returned it, got another one where the color was off, but this time it was the red values, other one was the green!. Then I took that back, got my $550 back, and bought a 22inch on sale for like $220.. worked perfectly fine. I've since bought another 22inch model that's worked flawlessly. Bought 3 those prior years for my parents, myself and my girlfriend.

But If I had to pick another brand, it would have to be LG, as they look to be damn sexy as well. Not to mention LG makes a badass fridge! (We need a fridge forum.. I'd overclock a fridge).

my 27 is a samsung and after 3 years not a single problem or dead pixel, my wife's is a LG, same thing, not a single problem. id stay away from anything that isn't major branded, as they tend to use lower end panels in them, you get what you pay for pretty much, paid $1200 for mine 3 years ago (sad they only went down $300 in that time, i want a second to run dual)
