I was looking around, ever see the "Toaster" ? No not the car!

You can plug it into the back of your PC via USB or E-Sata (oh baby!)

I was gonna pick one up, I figure it's cheaper than buying fully enclosed externals seeing how I just pop the drive out. Back my stuff up, pop out the drive, pop in another drive. I could slap all my movies on one, etc....

Anyone own any a Toaster? or a variation that lets you swap drives in and out quickly?

Any hot swap bay or NAS style storage enclosure would suit you just fine

Did ya mean one of these?

I stuck in a dead latop drive for effect lol But it will take either or desktop HDD's and this baby is E-Sata.

Picked this up at a great deal from a trusty forum member. For the same reason's as you mentioned, I would also use this a plenty.

So overall the device works good for you Hali? I've seen these before and if I was more of a data hoarder I'd be interested in them but as it is my regular external is more than enough for me at the moment.

I have a friend who does all his backing up on hard disks and he stores them all in a drawer but he doesn't put anything over them (anti-static bag etc.) and I believe the one time he went to go back and get something the drive was no longer working for him. So I'd be a bit careful about storing these drives but otherwise they seem like a great idea.

Well I picked this up for several reasons.

Say I get a friend or family member with a few viruses. slap the drive in here - scan it and allow things to be auto-removed as windows isnt active, files dormant, virus(s) easily removed. Pop the drive back in the original machine, issue resolved. Again, good for laptop and desktop drives.

Say I wanna slap an image on a drive quickly, copy files ( movies tv shows instead of doing it slowly by wireless) slap it in, done.

I am going to have several uses for this. When I pick up a TB drive from a forum member, I am going to copy all the data from a drive in my main rig to this TB drive, verify the copy then change out the drive(s), then use this to format the small now removed drive for later use or to store a new image of my main rig. ( and yes I use anti-static bags lol and store the drive on a shelf.

Saves time, I eat less advil from the headache of having to open up side panels, plug things in etc etc. This just made sense.

Screw the movie, read the book. Classic.

Sad to say Hunter is my role model...albeit a very irresponsible one haha

Depp's best voice acting had to have been Edward Scissorhands, IMO.

Thread successfully hijacked!

A guy at work nearly convinced me to buy that. The Drobo sounds awesome! Altho its much more pricey than a toaster :(
