For all of you Eastlink home users you may be interested in this if you already have a bundle.

um yeah sure.

# Monthly Usage: 250 GB/Month3, equivalent to;

* 65,000 songs from iTunes per month or;
* Approximately 6500 digital albums or;
* 300 Standard Definition movies

great until they cap you. I would rather be throttled than capped.

I would be very interested if the cap speed just went down to the "regular" 15mbit/1mbit.

250GB a month is A LOT. That's over 8GB allocated per day. I might just give em a ring and see what's up widdit.

3. $1.00/additional GB, rounded up to the nearest GB. Internet usage will not apply to existing internet service (High Speed 1.5, 5 or 15)

What's that last part mean?

I shot them off an email asking for clarification on some points. It almost looks like if one is already paying for Eastlink 15, paying 10$ more a month for Eastlink 30 means there is no cap, or something, I don't know. Really I'm more interested in faster upload speeds without the cable modem killing every other connection.

I'm with Steve-O on this. I download more than your average user but 250GB/month . . that's a lot of stuff. The only time I think I ever went over that was when I was downloading rainbow tables for password cracking. That was around 150GB alone.

And I do have a torrent file that connects you to pretty much every version/release of Transformers that ever came out and that is about 250GB for everything.

"The CRTC has approved Bell Canada's request to bill internet customers, both retail and wholesale, based on how much they download each month."

Bah that's Bell, not surprised at all (although it IS bad). All this will lead to is more swap meets. Y'all know how much drive space I got heh.

If I could get unfettered unfiltered unmolested uncapped 30mbit/2mbit internet I'd gladly pay double what I'm paying now for internet.

more and more nickel and diming. Its very sad. Soon, even tho some people have a VPN and with a full 128bit encryption, they can still tell how much data in gigs for example you are downloading and still get you.

Sure they won't be able to see what it is but that won't really matter. ISP's are going down a dark reek filled alley with that move. Only a matter of time before eastlink follows that example cause there's money to be had.

I just died a little on the inside.

Eastlink's saving grace is that they are only a content provider, and do not own any media (other than say EastlinkTV).

Bell has Expressview, CTV etc.
Rogers has Rogers
Shaw has Starchoice, Global etc.

i'd rather go down to the 5/1 service if i could keep my bundle and have the price drop a bit for the reduced service.
i'm glad to see that the bundled people aren't being forced to "upgrade" to this capped service for more money per month, yet face even higher bills if they want lower service.

Paying for Eastlink is cheaper than the total 100% legal alternative.
