I will have to get a second job to pay for the power and the cards. After getting the cards, thinking of mounting the computer in such a way I can hang a clothes line out side the cooling fans. just kidding but except for the second job.

You could have camp outs next to the pc and roast marshmallows and weenies from the cards exhaust.

ANNNND fermi dies!

Apparently the 470 is being replaced by the 465 and the 470's are getting a tad underclocked and spliced together to make dual score 490's (think 5970). So it will be slower than a 5970, cost more and use more power (5970=290W, 490=375W), busting the PCI-E power spec envelope of 300W right out of the water.

OH, and no multi-monitorn gaming on SLI 4x0's until at least the end of June.

I feel sorry (not really) for any schumck who got conned into buy one of these.

wow.

what a failure. I expected better. huge dissapointment. If i was die hard Nvidia, I would have little choice but to go ATI after this flop

I suspect, they are buying out time, re tooling to out do ATI's best offerings. At this point in time they are doing some serious scrambling to play catch up and out do ATI. They got some serious technology and resources to hammer out and compete. The next 12 months will be mission critical for Nivida as a lot of NV fan boys are loosing patience with the great one. Nvidia is not a sleep at the wheel, as a lot is at stake, but ATI is jumping on there bad nerve. My guess, 3d triple head will not pull them through, but 32AA, and eye candy will. The dog and pony show will continue for 2 years, and the next year will be critical for Nvidia as their fan base is dropping faster than flies off a heat lamp.

Better get them while they are hot (literally and figuratively). I'm sure all the usual suspects have closets filled with them.

And a dual 470 (aka 490) rears it's ugly head hehe.

Dual 8pin power is required, but it has (finally something does) 3 DVI ports on it.

Galaxy loves to show things that you never seem to be able to actually buy.

And this also lends air to the legitimacy of the rumors that the "490" needed 375W of powah. PCIe specs be damned.

Reliable source claim the PCB isn't even routed, so it's just a mock-up. And it's not the 490, as that's still under NDA

2 470's sandwhiched onto a single PCB isn't a 490. The 104 part (Fermi II, GTX 460) will be NV's "mainstream" card (think 5770), and that part will be within the realm of sanity when it comes to pricing, heat output and power consumption. The 490 part should be made from 2 of those 460's, and unless it can overclock like stink, it will not compete with the 5970.

But we're talkin July at the earliest, and ATi still can release faster cards and/or lower prices before the Southern Islands refresh in the fall.
