Apparently, there has been a few break ins on the ground level apts in my area. Besides locking the doors and windows and using several pieces of 1x1 to make it harder to keep the windows from being forced open - I am considering setting up a very modest security camera(s) for when we are not home.

If any of you have any experience shoot me a pm with the software you used.

I am only looking for motion detection and e mail capability. I can run this on two separate pc's when we leave for the day/night or on weekends.

Thank you for any and all suggestions !

I just wired up a cellular system with doors, window breakd and motion sensors that works by texts and alarms.

But shouldn't you have home insurance too? Just making sure =)

It's cheap to build a small system.

Not as effective as a shotgun on a pully system though.

yes we have apt insurance but still, Rather have some protection against - at least a deterrent.

I am going to go the webcam route with motion detection and e mailing photos upon detection. I have got a few pc's here that can run all that on each one and capture everything.

Also put something in the window that warns of motion detection camera's in use - with a motion activated hello kitty M16 lol

you'd be amazed what an old webcam and a plastic shroud will do even if its not plugged in. remember that appearances can be deceiving they have no idea that the web cam is not even hooked up, or that the bolt to my shot gun is still in the gun locker. :]

well, I would even hang the Machete I have on the inside where it can be seen.

I would however make the web-cams visible and I would enable software to email an alert to my phone via sms along with e mail photos when motion is detected.

its good to have something to give the police here in HRM. They are so busy they wouldn't care much about a couple people doing some B&E's unless theres a quick fix like handing them over photos that identify them.

lol funny but true.

They care little about anything else. That being the case I am guessing they wouldnt care much if a couple guys go missing after an attempted B&E.

currently looking at a few pieces of software. If anyone has any suggestions on what is best, please post. I am going to be setting this up soon.
