yeah but when you see the nice temp change, you will be happy. take note of your temps idle and load now then do er up again when the V8 monster is installed.

With a V8 you can lap the CPU and hsf for no cost, great gains as well!

Assuming you already have the sandpaper that is. ;)

I'm not going to bother lapping .. as long as it cools decent and don't sound like a airplane i'll be happy. lol This stock one is loud when it speeds up on load. I'm not used to having a computer this noisy.

The V8 is virtually silent. Its also surprisingly quiet when its turned all the way up.

Stock: 31 Idle 53 Load

V8 : 27 idle 49 Load

V8 is much quieter .. I run it about half way on the fan control .. now if i can just get this power supply to be alittle less noisy. lol

Those temps will improve in a few days when the thermal compound properly sets.

I take the temperatures back I didn't know about the huge difference between Core and Sensor temperatures on these CPUs. SO it's like this now.

V8 : 39 idle 57 Load with P95 .. not good IMO. I don't know exactly where my problem is but it's got to be in the case air flow I can tell it is pretty warm in there. Then that means adding more fans which mean more goddam noise which there isn't alot of room for because this power supply when under full load is already loud. I miss my super quiet Core2 Duo system now.

I find they use way too much thermal compound on heatsinks nowadays.

I removed the stock stuff even tho I know its great quality - but that dont matter a damn when theres way too much.

I only spread on a little so its no where near what they throw on. Temps went down 6-8 degrees for me when doing that so try it.

This one didn't have any on they gave you a tube of it to apply yourself. I don't put very much on either. Removed it once and reinstalled with AS and still the same temps. These temps however are with P95 maxing out all 6 cores .. tried some games and it doesn't go above 46 or when working with video above 48.

This case is an old Chieftec with only 2 80MM fans and in the case has 3 hard drives .. drive bays and a 8800GT that generates more heat than a hair dryer. lol Looks like it could be time to retire this 10 year old case. Any suggestions on cases anyone?

I absolutely love the Corsair 600T. I wish it was available when I got my HAF 922.

However with that being said I do like the amount of space in my case. Plenty of room for everything that I have thrown at it so far.

If I had to buy a new case it would be the Corsair 600T as well.

I'm going to be doing an upgrade to my system this summer but I'll most likely end up keeping my current Antec Sonata II case during this because even though it's not the greatest to work with, and has no cable management, it's very quiet and will save me money.

Speaking of which, I also went from a Chieftec case (I had the Matrix, but it was the same basic layout as the more popular Dragons', just a different front plate: http://images.tigerdirect.com/SKUimages ... _grn-r.jpg) and it was much much louder than this Sonata. After owning it I don't think I could go back to a window'ed side panel case with fans everywhere, but that's me.

Yeah I think these cases are the loudest ones ever. Lots of room but I think noise wise that hurts them and makes them louder. I hate to buy a new case right now I was saving that money for an SSD but noise is something i really don't like when spending hours working around the system.

The coolermaster cm 690 basic is a good case for cooling and it's cheap but i can't recommend it only because it has no side window.

sounds like larger fans and a fan controller may be in order. Try using more of the motherboard headers for 120mm fans as they would be lower in rpm than plugging it right into a molex.
