Do ya think the fin design was a happy mistake, or a selling gimmick, which does indeed look cool. But when in motion, you couldn't tell anyways..."but they are rippled for the CPU's pleasure!"

It's hard to say with that fin design but I've heard bumps in it actually make it quieter. I believe it was discovered by a company that looks for inspiration from nature and biology and they found out making fins that were shaped like whale's tails actually helped with reducing air vortexes, which is what produces sound from fan blades moving though air.

As a side note, I was going to post a photo here of a whale's tail to show what I meant but after a quick Google Image search of "Whale Tail" I quickly had to close out of it as it appears to have a slang meaning and I'm here at work. ;)
