Nowadays I spend more time watching videos than playing games that look pretty neat on triple screens.

SO I decided to "upgrade" and get myself a 29" uber widescreen Asus MX299.

Apparently it is of good design.
It came with a plethora of cables, the only one of which fit my 7770 was the DL-DVI cable.
Being the 21:9 format, it's designed specifically for the widescreen movie format :P

Black bars now appear on the left and right when playing in 16:9 format.

The built-in speakers sound pretty good for what they are.

I like the look of those monitors but I don't want black bars while gaming. :-\ I also wish you could set "zones" on them so when you maximize a window it just maximizes to it's zone only... maybe there's some software out there that does this but I'm not aware of it? If that was available easily in Windows it would be a nice way of getting the benefit of dual monitors without actually having dual monitors.

LG versions of this size can make it "zone" to up to 4 sections. This is wide enough for anything I think I'd use in the future.

How do you find the IPS screen? I keep forgetting to check those out when I'm in stores.

It's definitely bright enough. Had to turn down the brightness when the lights are out, kinda reminds me of a plasma screen. It replaces a 27" IPS screen that's over 4 years old, so I've been a monitor snob for a while :P

Comparing it to the old 27" monitor makes it look rather small, but for watching movies it's second to none (excluding really big screens, but this is in my bedroom so I don't need or want 40" TV), and I'm sure it only draws half the power (and probably even produces less than that in heat).

I'm looking at the LG one for a possible upgrade.

29" is the sweet spot. If you get the LG one let me know how it goes.

I've re-though this, I'll probably go with a Sammy S27A850D at 2560x1440 instead. Weird resolutions and gaming didn't seem like a good idea.
