What speakers/receiver did you get?

I have a friend who bought floor standing speakers for his 5.1 system and he didn't have the sub right away and I actually found that it was "bassy" enough without it. It didn't hit the extreme lows of a sub, but I found it fine, and that's coming from someone who has bookshelf speakers (Athena) and a 10" sub (Paradigm).

The Receiver:

The Bookshelf: (no MFG link for some reason)

The Center:

I just received the center channel speaker today and hooked it up. Sounds decent with music with the right settings. Haven't tried a TV show or movie yet.

I have pretty much the exact same receiver but an older year. I think it might be an older gen VSX-1024 though since it has the video upconverting processor. It's nice but also fairly finicky. When I turn on all my gear I think my Sony TV throws it a signal saying to use pass through audio so the receiver goes into a shut down mode and I need to click it on again to use it properly. If it goes fully into this mode before I can press On again (I have about 3 seconds) it won't pick up the audio/video when it starts back up and I need to jump to a different mode and than back to the one I want in order for it to pick up again. All very strange but other than that I like it.

What do you use from your Sony TV for an audio output to the receiver?
The only audio output my LG TV seems to support is optical.

There's a hell of a lot of settings on this receiver and getting just the right combination of settings for the right number of speakers is quite the pain in the butt, but once you have it, it's amazing.

I don't use audio out on my TV (and ya, it's usually just optical that they provide for that), but instead I plug all my devices into my receiver and then have a single HDMI cable from it to my TV. My receiver then does all the audio/video switching for me.

Did your receiver come with a mic for the MCACC auto calibration? I liked that for getting all my speaker distances set and whatever other settings it does for you. I found it made it much easier than usual for A/V receivers I've used in the past.

Yeah, I got one of those things. I haven't bothered to use it as I've actually enjoyed mucking about with the settings. Trying different EQ and pre-amp settings along with changing the per channel gain to see what sounds best.

Figured I'd get this up and going again.
Popped in to see Rob yesterday and picked up a few things.
i7 4790, Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3P, Fractal Design Arc XL

The CPU is fast, the motherboard is tiny, and the case is HUGE. Very easy case to work with and the cable management is excellent. For the first time my case isn't a rats nest of cables bundled all over the place.
