Hey, I currently run a...
E6600 2.4ghz @ 3.4 (air)
P5B ASUS Wifi DLX Edit
Thermaltake Armor series full tower
2gig 800mhz 4-4-4-8 supertalent dual channel kit.
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard
2 x250gig WD HD 7200rpm
1 External La Cie 500gig HD
2 DVD-R/RW (LG and Benq)
7900GTX
650W Seasonic PSU

My video card seems to be dying, or blinking, no idea. Anyhoo I was thinking of upgrading after christmas.. I heard tell of nvidias 9 series and ATI's 3 coming out after christmas sometime or mid 2008. I've been doing a lot of rendering with it and it seems to be slowing down.. as well as in games like GW it blinks and flashes a lot, same for Hellgate and almost every other title, and yes I've reinstalled drivers thousands of times, and its not overheating, nor is it OC'd (anymore). Also and/or I was thinking of throwing another 2gig kit in... and possibly a quadcore.. But I'm not sure if Maya 2008 uses all 4 cores or not.. and also someone told me Windows XP Pro doesn't like using more than a dual core... and also doesn't utilize more than like 3.12gigs of ram (x32 version). So I thought either x64 pro or Vista...(yuck). Video card, ram, and quadcore maybe. Any suggestions, ideas, or maybe I should hold off for awhile?

My Christmas wishlist this year consisted of a single $19 videogame. :?

It was Fable: The Lost Chapters if anyone was wondering. I'm looking forward to it. :)

FALSE, mine uses all 4 cores 24/7 just fine, a lot of the newer games also use all 4.

TRUE it can't address more than 3.2GB

I'd get a new graphics card. HD3870 or 8800GT (512MB) I think it'll be May before anything new high end comes out, save maybe a dual card.

if i did say get the 8800GT 512mb ($298 @ MB)
Would it be worth it to still get a quadcore or would the card stump the cores in comparison to a E6600 dual core... an then just wait till nvidia's high ends pop out in May and upgraded the card & get a quad while im at it?

G92 8800GTS is on the way, as is a nice Intel 1000PT gigabit NIC (hopefully reduce my ping a little bit)!

I'm really hoping for the S60R I asked for :P

I'd like my wife to greet me when I get home, naked, and holding a case of ice cold beer.

That would be great.

Although ebay does have 2900XT's on for 261-350 CDN (yes i know the 261 is AU $$ but w/ shipping its $299 CDN in total!), also a 8800GTS 640mb for $325 USD. But if i recall the 2900XT 512mb was winning that battle.. more like inbetween the GTX and the GTS(640mb)

Dumb questions but, would a dual channel SuperTalent kit 2g x2 get along with my current 2x1gb ones, even if their different timings or will they default all to the same?... And if I was going to raid say 3 drives, 500gb, 250, and another 250g. Would a raid controller speed it up or just sit there uselessly? I know mobo has onboard RAID and other complexed raids need a card, just wondered if it was "faster" with a raid card..
