I just put in my 2900XT and everytime i get past the windows loading screen it blank and just says
"Screen Not Optimum, 1600x1050 60hz is optimum" I tried putting my old card in, putting the resolution down to 800x600 then reinstalling the new card. Get the same problem, it sounds like the refresh rates are messed up? I dunno how to fix/get it to work though.. any ideas?

EDIT: turns out the card didnt like 1600x1050 settings, i put it to 1024 and it got past windows but now its blank and frozen after windows boot, with my mouse frozen in place.. it wont even boot into safe mode... im gonna take the card out for tonight, i cant find anyone to help me with it.

What are you running for a PSU?

Those vid cards are power hungry.... you could try unplugging all your extra gear to see if that makes a difference.

well i got a 650W psu.. i just tried it in another PC here.. it has an older mobo, a 500W PSU, and has a X1950XT in it. I took the 2900XT no problem.. .so I think I might have to reformat this pc to get it to work...

think i figured it out... I got a 650W Seasonic.. yet I dont seem to have the power? I unplugged 2 of my drives.. thanks for the tip.. it worked.. Now what do i do.. Go blow another $150 on a new psu for this card ? -.-... I had an idea though.. I got a full tower armor series.. and the 400W PSU go for pretty cheap compared to higher up ones... power requirements for the 2900xt are 300W.. How would you go about hooking up 2 PSU to 1 mobo so 1 is everything but video, and the other is just video ?

hum, i dont know much about psu but is 12V 420W and the other 6V (is it ?) 180W. Bad? I wasn't sure what all that crap ment on the side.. but for some reason I keep thinking thats bad, and it needed 600W 12V (rails or something their called?).

must of been a fluke.. everything boots, everythings started... but still same question for dual PSU and such... and would it benefit to use that nvidia VGA powersupply I saw if thats my problem? Would it plug into the 8pin/6 if i needed it ?

Thanks

I'm not completely sure what you are asking......

Is you system working with the 2900XT now?

Getting two PSUs to work together can be done, but without some form of relay from the first PSU which turns on the second (through shorting out a couple of pins on the motherboard connector) it wouldn't be pretty.

You may be fighting with the x1 bug, run CPU-Z to check the Link Width on the Mainboard tab. If it says x1, take your CPU down to stock speed. If the issue goes away, up your PCI-E clock up to 110, then clock your CPU back up.

didnt have anything OC'd when i did this. But I think it was a fluke.. not sure but now I can have everything plugged in and the card works fine. I just finished reformatting and I've got no problems.. none except wondering which audio to use.. ! onboard, soundcard or ati card. It wouldnt hurt if i disabled the sound from onboard and the audio from the card would it ? It'd draw less power then ?

edit: I should have some decent 3dmark06 scores, heading out gonna let it run for a bit. Everythings at stock speeds though =)
