I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, but when I do any speed test using speedtest.eastlink.ca I show my 15M down/ 1M up.
If I use speedtest.net I show 3.8M down/ .8M up.
Is eastlink faking their test?
Has anybody else seen the same differences?

The eastlink server is obviously just down the street from you..... :)

Speedtest.net doesn't necessarily have a good match for doing a speedtest from HFX region. You'll probably find you get better results by chosing a different location to do a speedtest from.

that is something i dont quite under stand. (the speed test will be faster from a closeer location) ok this being said, well how oftin are u trying to upload somethign or download form a site that is close to you.. hardly never. so who cares what the speed test is at eastlink. its the speed test thats further away that will give u a better reading. i might not have explained myself enough here but it just dont make no sence to me

Because if you're testing some other server, you don't know if the slowness is on their end or yours. With the Eastlink server, even though the distance may make it slightly faster than usual, the difference isn't going to be huge. However, you do know that their bandwidth will almost never be saturated, so you know any speed issues are on your end.

define "bunch of trouble"

I'd like to know what it is they do.
I've read my agreement papers from eastlink and it mentioned nothing about tampering/modifying/'hacking' the modem anywhere, it just says that the modem is theirs and not mine.

When your speed drops like that, just reset your modem and router. It usually will jump back up

In terms of fibre, there's already a TON of fibre around the Halifax core that's completely unused. However, if Aliant is really going to offer speeds like that, I may need to jump ship, depending on their prices.

Id even get my own, and pay for it myself for speeds like 75mbps

Don't know if the OP has resolved his issues, but somebody has a "twinning" router (up to 4 inputs) for sale at what looks like a reasonable price......

Alint has been working on fiber for years, and what i have been told from my sources is within 12 month they will be offering insane amounts of speed for prob $20 more the the current ultra high speed packages.

Hmm... I'm very, very tempted to get this for an easy solution to aggregating out two connections... Nice find ;)
