Don't know if any of you play or have played Quake based games, but id software is now beta testing QuakeLive. I am beta testing it now and it's awesome. It's basically a remake of Quake 3 just tweaked highly with a real good live stats system and a skill match system as well (it determines your skill level and matches you with the best game). Its also cool that it runs in a web browser and runs extremely well, also with low latency on all the servers.

I will have some beta keys available this week, if anyone is interested let me know.

Cool, this is first come first serve as well. Wildbohr I get my keys I think this monday, and after I send the invite id has to review the submission which takes up to about 5-7 days.

The way the invite system works, is id will send out 1000 invites to random users. Some people get 2 or more, some people only get one. Once those 1000 invites or so are accepted they release 1000 more and so on. The last 1000 were given out 2 weeks ago, so I can only assume the next batch should be shortly. It IS worth the wait, especially if you're into fast paced deathmatch style games like Quake. I mean it's still a spectacle to see such seamless integration of an FPS game and a web browser.

One side note however:

Since this is a closed beta, the majority of players are extremely high skilled. So much so in fact, that I went 11-29 with 74% accuracy (which is very high) my first clan arena match, and still came in near last, and I've competed both in sponsored Quake 1 and Quake 3 tournaments. So yeah, prepare to get whomped at first.

Youtube has a little bit of gameplay footage but not a hell of a lot, since releasing game media (including videos and pics) is in violation of the non disclosure agreement. Just imagine Quake 3 with a slightly tweaked ruleset, sharper brush, model and texture rendering and a complete set of popular Quake series maps which have been re-textured and extremely well put together.

Also, glad to see people taking interest in this. I am a pretty effin die hard Quake fan, who feels damn lonely in 2008 where game developers put more attention to eye candy than gameplay.
