i am not to impressed with the nahelm

WE GOT WORD that Intel is adivising mobo-makers and memory vendors alike about their new X58+Core i7 combo and to abide to a strict 1.65V limit on memory voltages, beyond which there is the risk of burning out the CPU.

The info first tipped up on the XFastest forums where the admin posted several photos of an Asus P6T Deluxe (retail-packed) mobo including one of a big sticker over the DIMM slots motherboard warning that anything over 1.65V will fry the CPU.

looks like its only a few ram kits to choose from
what a shame...

also rumor is its hit a big brick wall @4.1ghz
and 1,576 V is the limit if pushed kiss that $1000 dollar processor good by

to me these are way to hyped up junk junk
not worth the money...

but each to their own!

i dont want to be the guy to say I TOLD YOU SO.
but i know its going to happen :D

yawn....

This issue was reported a few months back and is more panic mogering than fully truthful.

'Crank the volts and go' method of overclocking has changed with this cpu/ram/chipset. The following link best explains the new reality for i7 overclocking.

there was a email sent to one of the top leading overclocking teams on xtreamoc and the reply back was that the i7 was tested and it done not hold up well at all against the qx9770 infact they said that it was a nightmare for overclocking

ill go by what they are saying 8)

An email sent was it? A nightmare to over clock is it? Well in that case I'll just have to buy one and see that for myself.

Did this email happen to say what motherboard was used, bios version, memory, cooling solutions and who was at the helm of such a nightmare?

I'm more into stability than a score.
Not a E-penis war

I'm more than happy with my score, low voltage and reliability. Not crashing is great.

Nehalem cpu scores in vantage rape any current quads from what i have seen, so all bets are off till the cpu is in our hands. I will going to a i7 for my workstation after Christmas, but i am not toying with it too much because i need it for work.

clock for clock nehalem is faster, add in 8 threads and i feel pretty confident the naysayers will be reversing there stance on the chip, especially when boards are finalized. personally i am happy i will finally be able to run sli on an intel chipset so thats worth the change alone for me.

when hasnt a cpu or memory or GPU warned companies/end users about over voltage?? this isnt new information...its old information, IMHO media is taking a 10 step leap backwards....I.e. the Maple Leaf Foods Listeious Recall....listen this isnt a new concern, it has always been there...just because overlocking has been the norm doesnt mean its safe...Denty/sebreeze, what volts have u been running your e8400's at, many reports say they fry at 1.4 but i KNOW alot of u run them close or MORE than that...geeze people...if we're gonna run things at spec than STFU...if ur gonna overclock void your warranty and live with the possible consequences.... if u dont like intels warnings....then switch to AMD's current POS...i'll be enjoying a nahelm when its released...

/rant...

ummmm were talking about a cpu that isn't released. benchmarks posted to futuremark servers would violate the NDA so i doubt you will find to many becuase intel is very protective of NDA agreements though i am sure some will do it anyway. i work in the industry and we have been well prepped on it, trust me nethalem will be a nice step up for most systems, but mainly impact people that use multi cores/threads such as high compression video work. it will mean little for games.

and whos talking smack??? i don't have time to benchmark nor the interest, my computers do the work i ask them too and that's all i need from them running synthetic benchmarks that mean nothing compared to real world performance doesn't seem all that fun to me but like you said each to there own. all respect for the scores you achieve though.

Been there but looking forward to SLI'd 8800GTX's on the Q9550 least till I get my hands on one possibly two 280GTX's that is.

Oh the dreams! hahaha

compare extremes to extremes. like i said multi core users will be the ones that see the advantages. others will use it to extend there epenis.

i know we are stoked about the gains server get from these chips, we are talking big improvments over current xeons.
