So I found another 74G Raptor to run in Raid with my other one here just wondering if it's worth doing even?

heh I changed my mind I'm going to continue the hunt for another 150 & do those in Raid0 instead.

when you consider that the latest WD and seagate 640gb drives are using 2 320gb platters and are faster in almost everything i would say no. velo's would be the way to go at this point, the x150 in raid would give you better access times then dual 640's but thats about it.

heres a screen from a test on my servers array, score is less impressive then it could have been i had some background activity slowing it down but you get the idea.

Yes but I have these already just will need to sell one & put a couple more dollars into it to get the 2nd drive rather than alot more money to buy something completely diff. If I were going to go that route I'd get SSD's or something similar but this is just a budget good working machine.

dual 640's is what i am using in the screenshot, there not expensive. you could prob unload the raptor and get 2 640's pretty cheap.

All I can say is make sure you don't put anything essential on those drives. I woke up one day to find the RAID was fucked up for some reason. Both drives were fine and they still work. I son't dare do RAID-0 anymore.

I do RAID-0, but fully agree with you're statement...just don't keep anything on them that you really want to keep.

I've used RAID-0 now for 5 years or so and had only one issue, but it was enought to teach me that lesson.
