I agree. Clarke has done some good shit OCing and trying the latest and greatest. I admit that. I'm entirely jealous I don't have the money to do so.

But you should be able to reach 4.0 easily.

the 45nm xeons usually need less voltage to hit 4ghz, and also run cooler. the benefits of being higher binned for server environments.

The are not binned exactly. Xeon and EE processors generally come from nearer the centre of the waffer. Everyone I'm sure is familiar with the large circular disks on which the silicon is not only applied, but also strained through centrifugal forces. Impuries are forced to the outer rim of the waffer, thus cores which come from this part generally run hotter than those from more near the centre. This is why processors of higher speeds, Xeon, and some mobiles, are in short supply...there is only so many square inches near the centre where the more pure silicon can be found.

The process by which both Intel and AMD uses to determine the type and speed rating of any core is called the validation process.

Each processor is tested, depending upon the validation results, mulitpiers are laser locked, cache disabled etc, IHS applied and laser etched.

This is to the best of my knowledge.

1.37v now, running prime...been a tough challenge and there are two things that i think may be holding back...1 is that maybe the chip i have just isnt a good oc'er, second, my ram is holding me back?...i thought it might be my psu, but i highly doubt that my system would be crapping out on a 500w earthwatts....comments, suggestions? denty what did u have your setup as, maybe give me a better guide. the only other cpu i ever oc'ed was my old athlon64 3000+ which went from 1.8ghz to 2.4ghz.

athlon-intel ocing is completely different
