The issue with the x58 motherboard and Nvidia SLI is in the drivers. Unfortunately, one needs the latest Nvidia drivers to enable sli on the x58; however, these drivers are not FM approved

Here is a compare url to a single 280GTX run using the 177.35 drivers from last June.

The interesting part is the CPU Score of 7,000 at the tested CPU frequency. I find this to be outstanding!

I thought a dual gpu card would have scored much better than my single.

Amazing how poorly the scaling goes with the second card for the low default resolution of '06. There is basically little gain of a second card in 06 at this low resolution.

BTW, your compare url does not work.

So I broke down and picked up a core i7 rig myself.

I decided to go with a Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHZ
3 gigs of cosair ram
ATI HD4870 512 meg

I ran 3D mark 06 so far however I only got 15,346...this seems rather low for a system spec'd like this.

Perhaps it's something with drivers or something.... any idea's?

My Super Pi run was 14 seconds as well. Doesn't seem too bad.

Skiman, what are your average temps for your i7 965?
I have mine clocked at 3.3ghz and I notice that my case get's quite hot and when I'm stressing the CPU with Prime95 the temps can get as high as 80-90 degrees.

Is there a heatsink that someone could recommend that might help me cool my chip a little more?

I have a NXT hush case

It's an awesome case and very sound proof thanks to foam on the inside of the case...though I think that this may be adding to my heat issues.

The stock intel cooler did not leave much thermal headroom for increasing voltage on the 965.

Those temp loads are too high for me. I bought the Coolermaster V8 and with a little mod and the window open, voila nice and cool keeping it below 60C.

Yea, 80-90 is way too high for me as well. So I guess I will have to look for a new heatsink that will fit the new socket type.

CoolerMaster V8 fits socket 1366. MB has one in stock too.

Even 60*C with an aftermarket cooler seems hot to me... like Prescott hot. ;)
