Even 60*C with an aftermarket cooler seems hot to me... like Prescott hot. ;)

I can only imagine how hot under air cooling any AMD product would become for the same performance numbers of the i7 (if they could even do it)...I don't think AMD or even many Intel products can touch these numbers under air cooling, thus it is a reasonable heat load considering the performance.

I have nothing against the performance of the i7's and it wasn't an attack against Intel (my current desktop and laptop are both running C2D chips at the moment) but it does seem like this line of chips is running very hot at the moment... hotter than I personally would be comfortable with even.

Microsoft should definitely use them in their new XBox's amirite? ;)

I didn't infer that from you post:lol: The heat issue, really isn't an issue under normal conditions/speed. I think the temps are reasonable considering overclock/temp of the other four core 45nm processors, but keep in mind the hyper threading also adds the heat to the i7.

That & the fact the mem controller is now in the chip to would add to the heat would it not? I'm glad I am going water on this though. Now to just learn how to OC it lolol.

I get squirmish when my CPU is around ~50*C at load. I guess I'm a wimp.

I used to get squirmish when my CPU temp hit 50C....but not with my new i7 it usually 55C while browsing so I'm used to it. My 4870 isn't helping matters since that thing pumps out a ridiculous amount of heat...and the Palit Sonic edition doesn't vent the air out the back of the case....so that just raises the ambient temp quite a bit. There isn't much I can do until I get a new heatsink for my CPU, or have cold air running into my case.
