Hello all, I've parted out my PC and will be rebuilding it as an i7 upon my return to Ohio. I'm upgrading from a barely overclocked AMD64 3500+ Venice (939). I wanna make sure I do this right while staying within a reasonable budget and so I thought I would get some advice from you all.
Since I will be ordering in the states, my hardware will be coming from Newegg.com and thus all the parts on this list will be coming from there. I've link all the parts to their respective pages, but don't mind removing the links if this is a problem with the folks in the shop.
So here we go:
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB 192-bit GDDR2 - $77.99
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66Ghz - $294.99
Patriot Viper 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) - $119.99
2 x
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB - $129.98 (for two)
EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 - $299.99
Not so sure about the motherboard as it's really the most economical solution but it's gotten the best ratings (at least on newegg), great customer support and a lifetime warranty.
I'm also not sure about the RAM. I'd like to have a reasonable but rock solid over clock. Let's say around 3.0Ghz? (will likely switch from the OEM cooler later on) So I'm not entirely sure which is more appropriate 1600 DDR3 or 1300.
So if you would leme hear what you have to say about my part choices, especially the mobo and RAM.
I'm also a little worried that the video card I've chosen might be a little loud as it doesn't have thermal fan control? Anybody have any suggestions for a quieter solution? Within the range of power & price?
EDIT: Considering this instead:
Recertified: EVGA 320-P2-N811-RX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3, but need to find out how the warranty works out with recertified cards..
