It's time to scrape together some cash for a new board, and i'm looking at a E8400 cpu (yes, i want an I7 and a P6T, but need to stay within budget). The Intel side of the tracks is new territory for me, last 3 builds have been Athlons, but my X2 4800 is beginning to feel old.

Any suggestions on a stable board, with some oc'ing capability - SLI and Crossfire not required because it prob won't get used. I've been thinking ASUS P5Q or GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3R.

Opinions?

p5k SE is all you need a sub 100 buck mobo with OC capabilities. I had it running 3.6 Ghz on a e8400 on a stock cooler, a small upgrade cooler and youll be hitting 4.0 on that np.

Anything else for a C2D non SLI/Xfire is irrelivant.

Not really to be honest. No bells here atleast. Or is that a inside joke?

Just the original quote.
"SLI and Crossfire not required because it prob won't get used"

Playing devil's advocate here - but if money is a concern maybe you should look more into the Phenom II's. They seem to match up to the Intel C2D's fairly nice, in terms of price and performance, and AMD boards tend to be cheaper than Intel's.

Just throwing it out there. :)

unless your benchmarking, the Phenom II's should give you comparable performance at a much lower price point. so for a gaming machine on a budget i would 2nd the Phenom II.
