250 GB is manageable but:
Upload speeds up to 2 Mbps

That's the deal breaker for me. 5Mbps up on the 100Mbps service is just absurd. Better upload speeds would be the only reason for me to upgrade or change providers. (See: Aliant FiberOP)

As the rest of the worlds internet moves forward (except probably the US) Canada's continues to move backwards. MTT was offering 7Mbps back when 56K was considered "high-speed". Bell promptly moved in and capped things off at 1.5Mbps, then offerred a hi-speed 3Mbps and then a 5Mbps, wow, gotta love that. BILLIONS of dollars in taxpayer money over the years to build up their network, and they stick it to the little guy over and over. Most of the CRTC probably worked for them at one point it time or hold their stock...

/rant

Bah, Weaklinks faster stuff isn't available out here in the boonies yet. I'd like a higher upload speed more than anything.

We still have to wait for the FiberOP. So far you can only get it in New Brunswick is my understanding and we are not going to see it in NS until 2011/12

As long as it doesn't use a Bell backbone so we as consumers don't get dinged twice, I'll pay for it.

No cap for me thanks!

Funny though, they'd get an extra $10 out of me if they did not impose restrictions. I can't see any 15mbps user switching to this, at least anyone who actually uses that 15mbps...

Thank you for your email. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

All EastLink High Speed Internet customers are entitled to a free rental modem.
(I asked since I bought my other modem and not renting it)
You will not have to pay to rent the new DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

The 250GB usage limit will be a cumulative total of your upload and download
usage. This cap is not active at present, but should be enabled in mid- to
late July.
(Sounds like a good scam for a couple months)

The usage cap does not apply to EastLink High Speed Internet 5 or 15, but
applies to all upgrades to Internet 30. Should you exceed 250GB per month your
speed will not decrease, you will simply be billed for the excess usage. A
tool will be available to measure your bandwidth consumption when this cap
becomes active. Should you later decide to move back to the 5Mb/s or 15Mb/s
speed the usage cap will be removed.

Kindly telephone us and one of our Customer Service Representatives will be
happy to assist you further and to start the upgrade process. Contact
information for your area is available online at http://www.eastlink.ca.

I think I'm going to go for it since there's no cap for 2 months, and the new modem is free free free!

Aight, so I ordered the "service", no one really seems to know if I actually bought the cable modem (who cares rental is free).

The duder on the phone said the tool to monitor total usage should be running before the 250GB cap is introduced at the end of July (confirmed). The old 15 service works on the new cable modem so there is no need to switch, if/when I got back to 15. The new DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems come with 5 IP addresses (compared to 4 with the current model).

I'll be getting it tomorrow from wherever their kiosk is located in the HSC and let y'all know if i can get ridonculous 3MB/s+ down speeds.

I should have asked the phone rep if he could see my lifetime stats.

Eastlink 15/5/1.5 doesn't have any caps either.

AT the kiosk in the mall, I saw an ad for "OMG Extreme 100mbit/s", so we'll have to see when that happens. These new Docsis3.0 modems will go well beyond that speed.

I was able to "upcap" a torrent, have it go at 1.4MB/s and my ping in WoW was still ~200ms (in the green).

The 100mbit/s service is stupid. It's 100/5, and like $150 a month. With the 250GB cap. The only nice part about it though, is it's not a contract, but rather month-by-month.

Yeah there is no point to ge JUST internet at 100mbit speeds and only 250GB of it for 150$ a month. At the very worst I find out that 250GB is not enough for what I need and I go back to 15 just like that. I got a new cable modem anyways.

I don't go that much but I do download 20gb a day on average. So that would put me at around 600gb a month. I'll stick with my 15mbps for now, even though I find eastlink's service to be very unstable. This whole week it was up and down grrr.
